Maltese Policemen win right to join a union, but not to strike.
The Malta Police Association (MPA) earlier this week said it had received correspondence from Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici on the issues it had discussed with him.
A motion to amend the Police Act was moved in Parliament a few days ago, but no details were given.
The General Workers’ Union (GWU) in a statement today said it had been calling on the government to amend the law so that policemen, soldiers, prison warders, civil protection officers and other workers in the forces could be given the right to join a union.
The GWU appealed to the government to ensure that the rights being given to the police also applied to servicemen and other sectors.
