« Modern Methods of identification – International Network against the Crime »

« The specialists in criminal law demand an European data bank of fingerprints as well as the taking of DNA sample as a standardised way. »

During the Kripo International seminar in Leipzig (Germany), Klaus Jansen, the new president of the Bund Deutscher Kriminalbeamter (BDK), has asked for the creation of a data bank of the fingerprints of the persons in possession of false documents of identity and the acceptance of the taking of DNA samples as complementary measure of identification to the current measures, such as the taking of imprints and photographs.

Klaus JANSEN has declared that – following the acceptance by the Bundestag of the Measures against the terrorism 1 file– and from now on, it will be possible to register additional biometric data in the document of identity all the German citizens. The application remains to be realised. This measure will be effective only provided that these fingerprints are listed and provided that one can consult them Online (protected data-processing network) at the European level.

Furthermore, the recording of DNA data of the delinquents represents the same interference in the private life as the taking of fingerprints. Consequently, every time the law authorises the taking of fingerprints – for reason of criminals’ identification – the taking of DNA tracks should be authorised.
