08.12.2007 France violates the European Social Charter

The European Committee of Social Rights (CEDS) of the Council of Europe recognized the merit of the complaint lodged by the European Council of Police Trade Unions* about the payment of Extra Hours at the rate of 9,25€/hour (Complaint n°38 / 2006, CESP against France).

The decision of the European Committee of Social Rights is taken for the benefit of all the French Police Officers whether they are members or not of the SNOP.

The Committee concluded to the violation by France of the Article 4, paragraph 2 of the European Social Charter which recognizes the right of the workers for a superior rate of payment for supplementary working hours.

The French State now has to respect its commitments, take specific measures and get in conformity with the European Social Charter.
